IS THIS THE YEAR?

We made it to 2021, my friends. Hallelujah. The longest year of our collective lives is finally over.

One thing I learned from last year–life is too short. It’s time to stop waiting for the perfect moment to make a change. Every January, Mark and I ask ourselves “is this the year we finally <fill in the blank>?” So our goal this year is to fill in those blanks!

Here are five goals of ours that were stuck in limbo until now. Some are small, some are silly and some are pretty major.

1.) Buy More Art

We love discovering new artists. We love finding the perfect piece for our clients. We love how original art makes a space expressive, personal and exciting. Now we’re making a commitment to buy more art for OURSELVES. I absolutely fell in love with the painting pictured above. It’s titled “Her” and it’s by local artist Xenia Gray (@xenia.gray). I’d been admiring her work for a couple of years and now I have a piece hanging in our bedroom!

2.) Replace Tired Furniture:

You know the old saying “the cobbler’s children have no shoes?” I sometimes feel that way about not spending more design time on our home. Even designer’s homes can need a refresh. So when I saw this super cute, perfectly colored sofa from article.com for our master bedroom, I pulled the trigger. Next up: our Family Room gets a makeover!

3. Install a Gas Fireplace:

For the last 5-plus years Mark and I have been saying how we’d love to have a gas-insert in our traditional fireplace. Then winter comes and winter goes and we do nothing about it, so no fires for us. Not this winter! One evening we stopped work early, drove to Dulles, placed the order, and a few weeks later we had a cozy fire at the push of a button. We’ve been enjoying it almost every night!

4.) Grow Your Hair Out:

When I first met Mark he had shoulder-length hair. He always said he wanted to grow it out again but the time was never right. (You know how it goes through that in-between stage when it looks kind of crazy?) One of the few quarantine benefits has been the relaxed grooming demands and fewer in-person meetings. The time was finally right. Life is too short but your hair doesn’t need to be!

5. Move Our Business out of Our Home:

This has been a BIG goal for us, folks. Working from home is incredibly convenient but as our business grows, we are needing more space. As part of our business growth goals for 2021, we’re excited to say our moving plans are underway. Stay tuned for updates!

We hope this list inspires you to answer the question “Is this the year I…?” with a resounding “Heck yeah it is”!

Maybe it’s time to convert your lower level into a playroom? How about finally creating a peaceful, rejuvenating bedroom suite for yourself? Furniture looking a little worn after all of this time at home, how about a refresh? We’d love to help. Send us a note. Let’s make it happen.
